1920’s Socialite Luncheon: (1920’s Project)
The Social Studies II Classes (10th grade American History), had a blast creating their projects and presenting them. The project took about a week to complete. Students chose from a list of famous individuals from the nineteen twenties. The projects began by students using the computer lab to create a power point presentation. Each presentation was completed individually and had to include at least ten key points of their person’s life. Students could opt to use a poster board to display their information. The power point/poster board also had to include a picture of the person, (for example: Al Capone) and a reference page showing where the student found their information. Students had to answer the question of how the nineteen twenties impacted the life of their person or how their person impacted the twenties. A prop was also required. The prop could include a picture of the person, a costume or an item that represented the person.
Then the real fun began! Students signed up to bring in food and drinks for the Socialite Luncheon. The food had to be something that was made or sold in the nineteen twenties. The students showed their creativity by dressing up to become their assigned person on the luncheon day. Finally, the students showed their finished projects. As you can see some of the students really went out on a limb and had fun with it. One students and his parent brought in a tin tub filled with coke in the glass bottles packed in ice just like in the twenties! This was definitely a favorite during the luncheon. We should thank all the parents for helping us prepare the food and drinks for the luncheon! It was a success.
